Ep 18 - Aida Barraza Jarrett

Hello listeners!

This week we had an amazing friend of mine on the show Aida Barraza Jarrett. Aida has taught history at Hilltop Middle School for the last 16 years. Aida is a native San Diegan and has a passion for working with families and helping children succeed in their educational goals and life. In addition to teaching, Aida also coordinates the FLAGS program and she has a Kids Matter club in which students do community service work. Aida is also the co-chair of the annual South Bay Adelante Mujer Conference that connects young girls and their moms with female professionals who teach about life-skills and career opportunities. By the way, Aida has also won Teacher of the year for the District and she was a finalist for the county.

During our conversation Aida also talked about her experience of not having children and how she deals with the expectation of being a mom.

Aida's quote of the day:

Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed.

You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.

Vicks Vaporub and Aloe Vera. Aida shared that when she had a sore throat her grandmother would put a piece of aloe on the stove and then put it on her neck. Aida wasn't sure if the aloe really helped or if she got better. Either way, you can get some on Amazon.
